A new Scred release is practically round the corner. It will be adding some of the most requested features and will be our biggest update since going public.

The small pleasures of life as spring arrives. I'm working very, very hard to get some important new features out, but driving around in my Caterham 7 (my daily driver) helps with stress. Now with gloves and roof off! Much recommended :-)

Been cheeky to our older competitor, Buxfer. I posted to their blog about their offering versus our own. Read what happened from our blog entry, "Buxfer can't take the flack?" ...

Getting back to the real work for Scred: coding. We've been spending a lot of time with business development (Startup Camp, contacting people and even a pitch yesterday), but now it will be good to sit down and develop important new things.

Shagsta, eh? Well at least now I know how you're planning to make money! :-)

You work from home, though? Over here the main problem is really that I'm at the office day and night working with Scred, including a fair few weekends too. I'm a bit ashamed about, but I do try to reassure her that the low salary, long hours and high stress will all be worth it one day.

Excellent post with good points for everyone here. Let's keep these in mind.

I think the problem is not only that of marketing but of a skewed perspective on the developers' side. There are umpteen companies trying to solve the problem of managing zillions of blogs. That's fine if you're a hardcore Web 2.0 geek and you actually enjoy reading all those blogs, but I'm a techie and I only follow a few essential ones. I simply do not have the problem that many companies are trying to solve. My guess is that many of my friends will not even have heard of this problem, let alone have any need for a solution. As pointed out, even Twitter, which has become relatively well known, is hardly mainstream. For me I have yet to find the itch it is scratching and I doubt any of my non-techie friends have heard the name. In the same breath I would argue there are quite a limited number of social networks people are actually willing to spend time with. It's not all doom and gloom, though. There's a lot of room for inter-person interaction on the web. I think it just boils down to the age old concept of genuinely offering a solution to a problem people have, or serving a need that exists.

I'm envying you guys. Hopefully the trip goes really well. Let us know about everything that happened. Perhaps a stream from Floobs? Keep the Finnish flag high!
