  Buggato.com - a bug-tracker for countries

June 20
by Lorenzo Bolognini, Owner @ Buggato

I just shipped the website buggato.com it's the first bug-tracker for countries and, in its first version, it's meant to track Italian bugs.

As an Italian myself I can tell you that we're not short of bugs to report! ;-)

I think it's interesting seeing one of our best software engineering practices being applied to real world problems, where arguably they would be most needed. The idea follows closely what Adrian Holovaty did back in 2005 with ChicagoCrime.org (now EveryBlock.com) except there's no scraping involved here and people are supposed to file bugs: streets that need repair, high unemployment rates in certain areas, they could all qualify as bugs.

The word buggato after which the site is named is common lingo among the Italian programmers and translates the English "buggy".

Makes you wonder if anyone ever used BugZilla or FogBugz for something similar ;-)

For the techies, the site runs on Django and PostgreSQL 8.x series and it's hosted by Webfaction.
