It's been four months since I started development on the project code named "Q". Finally, today at 3AM, thanks to the join effort with SAM-ITECH, I have deployed the first Private Alpha version to the live server under the project's full name Quickker.

Due to arrangements with "parties of interest", I am still not at freedom to disclose what Quickker actually is, but I am at freedom to invite anyone intrigued to register. All I can say is that Quickker is related to sports, that there will be a lot of hand on athletic experience applied to the functionality and usability, and that it will target anyone engaging in any kind of sport activity and in any kind of sports. I can assure you that Quickker will not be just another social network with a target audience!

Quickker is and will be developed in RubyOnRails with MySQL database, and, of course, with unavoidable JavaScript, Ajax, XHTML, XML, CSS, and other Web technologies.

The first day went fine. Just a few small quick fix bugs that were taken care of instantly. Today, I have enabled the mailing system. Now, every invited and pre-approved member will receive the designated email. I've also made a small adjustment on the menu, which is more visible and usable now.

Virtual company vs headquarters (9)
by Mark Kofman, CEO, SourceKibitzer

I would like to discuss with the community the issue of how start-ups should operate. Whether it is more reasonable to be virtual company with employees working from home. Or is it still more efficient to get together in one physical office every day.

Development teams. In-house or remote? (5)
by Fabio De Bernardi, MD, Veedow Ltd.

Both my co-founder and I are not techies. We are developing a pretty complex web app and we decided to have an internal team of 2 developers to start with. Now the costs of in-house London based developers is a bottleneck for our growth and we're looking abroad to find cheap and talented people to w ...   [read more]
