I haven't written a post yet about a European startup that is doing something very different from what we are used to. Today, I have a chance to write about a startup from southern Germany MyFaceID, a startup that is in the very same sense applying Web 2.0 methodology to its product, however, they go a bit more scientific with their approach. MyFaceID is a service that implements a facial recognition technology, which is, up till now, used mostly in off line security solutions. What they are trying to do is to allow everyone to perform search for similar people over the internet in photos and video files, as well as to provide fun and entertaining services related to facial analysis like caricatures, morphing, or 3D modeling.
Founder and CTO of MyFaceID is Oleksandr Kazakov, he is responsible for research, technology and development. Many thanks for the MyFaceID introduction to Maja Gerent, a co-founder and CEO responsible for strategy planning and management. Their technology was used in the first ever automatic caricature creation Simpsonize Me and in promotion of Microsoft Windows Server, where composite face of user was automatically created.
Currently, they are building a users database, while the service is in open beta stage with a quite limited functionality. They have some great plans for 2008 when they will add new features and interaction options for users. They also plan to employ a face driven search in video files.
