When you log onto dating sites, do you think all of them
have the same boring look and feel? Some of them are more boring than
others: they will ask you for fill out a long dating form, like PlentyOfFish,
and will give you fish in return. Others, like eHarmony, will make you
pay big bucks, take an hour-long quiz, and match you with someone in Saskatchewan, if you live in New York.
Regardless of how bizarre some of the sites are, they have one thing in
common: they are stale, boring and no fun.
So that's how I arrived to the idea of making a dating site that will feel like playing a game. From my college days, I recall a great bar game called "Eff, Marry, Kill", so I thought it would be great to play this on real people. To euphemize the whole concept, I named it Do-Dump-Date, or TripleD if you'd like. The basic idea is that you can upload a picture and a blurb, so that other users can rate you in a set of 3 profiles. Your profile can be one of the three: Do, Dump or Date. If you click on Date, and someone else clicks on Date as well, there is a double match, so you can start talking to that person: send messages, poke them, or even send a gift! If everything goes well, you can meet that person in the real world. Every person has a TripleD score. That's the distribution of their "Do's", "Dump's" and "Date's". The TripleD score 40-10-50 means the person is 40% doable and 50% dateable. If someone feels like bragging about their high "Do" or "Date" TripleD score, they can post it on their favorite social networking site or blog, or simply share it with their friends. MyTripleD is not just a dating game; beyond this, users can play celebrity TripleD. Additional features, such as product rating, are currently in development. If you'd try a product once, that's a Do. If you consume a product all the time, that's a Date. Don't want to try it? It's a clear Dump. So you think this is fun? Check out MyTripleD.com.
