Welcome to the first Workology news update.
A lot has happened on the site since we launched in Invitation-Only Beta on the 10th March. We've seen our membership increase healthily day by day - we now have a 700-strong community with a range of expertise from graphic designers and web developers to management consultants and journalists. We're attracting members from all over the UK, Europe and the US.
Over the last month, we've seen how our members have been using Workology to create work opportunities to suit their individual needs. From Abigail Deriu's request for freelance graphic designers to Stefan Drew's for a Marketing Executive, Workology is already evolving to address and meet the diverse needs of our community.
Other members have been very active on other areas of the site providing us with very valuable feedback, such as Andrew Green, a web development specialist, and Mickie Imrie, whose suggestion of location-based search has been put in our development pipeline. Remember, Workology is your tool and will evolve to meet your specific work needs so do feedback your ideas and suggestions. You can do so in the Workology Feedback Group.
The Workology Groups have also been a hive of activity over the last few weeks:
* The British Library who run speaker-meetings, networking sessions and workshops for entrepreneurs and SMEs, have a set up their Workology group, British Library Business & IP Centre, to showcase their events, offer advice and discuss issues.
* Skills Venture has set up a group called Sabbaticals to discuss the various ways in which members can develop new skills and gain new experiences through volunteering in developing countries.
* Wifi-Working in the Third Place is the group set up by One Alfred Place, a new kind of club that combines the best of a private members' club with your own London office. In their group, they showcase events, offer advice and discuss different ways of working to enhance your productivity.
If you're an organisation or SME, Workology Groups are a great way to showcase your activities and events; if you're an individual, you can join any groups that you share an interest in. And, you can always share your worries, gossip or rant in complete anonymity in our Watercooler Group.
As you may have seen, Workology has already started to catch the eye of outside commentators. This week alone, we received two high-profile write-ups, one in the influential web2.0 blog, Mashable.com; the other, in The Guardian.
We're always keen to associate our members' personal Workology stories with our offering. We might feature them in this newsletter, our blog, or any press articles in the mainstream media. Please send any stories to yourstories@workology.com.
So, that's it from us for the moment. Don't forget about the WorkMiles Reward Scheme - a ‘thank you' from us for completing your Mini Site, which is the best way to promote your expertise, skills or services on the site, and also helping out other members of the community. You get 10 WorkMiles which can be redeemed against £10 worth of vouchers from Amazon, iTunes or a charity of your choice.
We hope to meet you on the site!
Best wishes,
Sam and Anuj
