Webjam is a free online service that allows both individuals and organizations to create their presence on the web.

They are part of the European family as a London-based start-up founded by Yann Motte (French), Marcus Greenwood (British) and Alberto Barreiro (Spanish). I would like to thank Sonia Kalfon (who is in charge of marketing and communication at Webjam) for this overview of what Webjam really is:

"We started from the observation that today if you want to create presence on the web, whether it is to cultivate a personal hobby, to organize your wedding or to manage a charity, you are overwhelmed by the variety and the complexity of solutions. At Webjam, we offer a free, easy and flexible interface where you can start with a simple functionality (a blog, a forum, a personal page,...) and make it evolve depending on your needs, by adding contents and people. We have a simple drag&drop interface, a rich catalog of modules and styles and some unique functionalities such as replication of a Webjam, community management and collaborative publishing."

There are also a few announcements from Sonia Kalfon at Webjam blog for those who happen to be in Paris on December 8th or 10th:

- on Saturday 8 December, Webjam's French Community Manager Cedric will attend Barcamp in Paris, and give a quick overview of Webjam. If you are planning on attending, get in touch with him, he is a really nice guy, whether you talk to him in English or French

- on Monday 10 December, Yann, Cedric and myself will be in Paris to represent Webjam at LeWeb3, and we thought it would be nice to meet with a few of you. So if you want to grab a (free) drink, have a chat, and discuss a few things about Webjam, leave us a comment on this blog post. We have not yet finalized the details, but we will probably meet in a “bistro” with WIFI on Monday 11 from around 5 to 8pm. If you know of a good place to meet, let us know too. Come back to this blog to get the final details about the venue.

I would definitely recommend Webjam for anyone who is looking a convenient way to become a part of the Web 2.0 family. Webjam is easy and flexible, and most of all - for everyone, since it requires no technical skills! Everyone can use Webjam to create an interactive social network where everyone can have a voice, or to aggregate news, photos, games, bookmarks, or to write own blogs, create own websites, design own styles, or showcase a portfolio!

By the way, Webjam is hiring Front-end Developers! Have a look at our Jobs page for more details!

Virtual company vs headquarters (9)
by Mark Kofman, CEO, SourceKibitzer

I would like to discuss with the community the issue of how start-ups should operate. Whether it is more reasonable to be virtual company with employees working from home. Or is it still more efficient to get together in one physical office every day.

by Fabio De Bernardi, MD, Veedow Ltd.

Both my co-founder and I are not techies. We are developing a pretty complex web app and we decided to have an internal team of 2 developers to start with. Now the costs of in-house London based developers is a bottleneck for our growth and we're looking abroad to find cheap and talented people to w ...   [read more]
